Access to clean water is limited in today’s fish farming industry. Norway has access to great water resources, but only a small proportion of it can actually be used for fish production.
The recycling of water provides solid control of the water environment and sensible utilization of water sources. Increasingly stricter requirements for wastewater treatment also means that it will become more important to use water more efficiently in the future.
RAS – Recycling Aquaculture Systems
In short, recycling involves using the water several times, and regenerating the quality of the water via treatment in several stages between each use. Only very limited quantities of the water is replaced between each use, mainly to transport away particles and waste from the vessels.
Necessary water treatment includes the removal of organic material from the water. This material is a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi, and will also have an adverse effect on the biological filter. An important principle in a recycling plant is to filter out particles as intact as possible. It is easier, cheaper and more efficient to remove large particles than smaller ones.
Our filtration systems are effective solutions that remove organic material.
